Brief Description of the project:

Under the UNDP practice area of Governance , the project aims to:.

  • Contribute to the formulation of government policies on local development and further operationalise them through the development of systems, procedures and guidelines.
  • Contribute to capacity development - individual, organizational and societal – in the ADCs, IDCs, Atoll Offices, Island Offices, WDCs, NGOs, crdit institution, CBOs and individual citizens.
  • Contribute directly to poverty alleviation through provision of financial support for development infrastructure and improved access to financial services.
It will contribute significantly to three major outcomes: (1) Planning efforts at island level enhanced and reformed to incorporate community level perspectives and aspirations, including of women, reflecting a sustainable ecosystem management approach. (2) Local development plans reflect national development derections, are gender sensitive, and feed into the national budget planning process and utilization. (3) Increased access of island communities to finance income generating activities (poor, women and youth) and community infrastructure.
