Atoll Development for Sustainable Livelihoods (ADSL) II

Under the UNDP practice area of Governance , the project aims to:.

  • Contribute to the formulation of government policies on local development and further operationalise them through the development of systems, procedures and guidelines.
  • Contribute to capacity development - individual, organizational and societal – in the ADCs, IDCs, Atoll Offices, Island Offices, WDCs, NGOs, crdit institution, CBOs and individual citizens.
  • Contribute directly to poverty alleviation through provision of financial support for development infrastructure and improved access to financial services.

Regional Development Project (Phase II)

Infrastructure Development Projects

In addition to the projects mentioned above, the ministry also has a budget for small projects which develop the infrastructure of the islands of the Republic of Maldives. Most of these projects are carried out by local contractors.

Post Tsunami Recovery and Reconstruction

The tsunami, which originated from an Indonesian Earth Quake on the 26th of December 2004, was the worst disaster which struck Maldives during the past century or so, washing away homes, businesses, infrastructure of the islands. Maldives is still recovering from the aftereffects of the tsunami with a lot of aid from the international community. The Infrastructure Development section of Ministry of Atolls Development is carrying out projects which will aid in the recovery and reconstruction.
